Ex-Mariner Game

If you're cool you've already been playing this when you get drunk with amigos.

I'd really be happy if this got all sorts of neato comments.

HCM Rules:

1 - Name an Ex-Mariner that hasn't been listed already.
2 - One post per user per day

I'll get things started with the man... the myth... the legend... the grower of the world's greatest mustache...

HENRY COTTO!!!

  1. Hey EP -

You obviously know the rules of the home edition, however the online version doesnt come with the Pete O'Brien stipulation. Way to try and end our fun. This will go on forever!!!

  3. I'm gonna add a new wrinkle to the game. Use the first letter of the last name as the first letter of the first name for your new Ex-Mariner.

For instance wanamaker just said Jay Buhner... I'll go with

    Ben Davis

Not for everyone, not a rule, just for the real pros.

Sorry for all the text. Resume the game:

    Ben Davis

  4. You're making me abandon my plan to name 2009 Mets that were ex-Ms Finn but I guess I was gonna run out of them soon anyway. Dave Magadan.

  5. Keith - We welcome any participation, and your Mets spin is a truly creative twist of your own... this new addition was just for those experienced Ex-Mariner players. Please don't feel like less of a player if you don't comply. We encourage participation of all kinds.

  6. I have to say, the once a day rule is killing me

  7. Paul Abbott
The only Mariner who can go up in an elevator while someone else is going down.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Aaron Heilman.....you guys never gave the poor guy a chance!

  9. We'll give it to ya, even though he never stepped on the Major League field for us. Another good Met connection though.

You need to have actually playedin a mahor league game to count. So David Ortiz (or whatever he went by back then. What was he hiding from? Why change the name? Is that what he bought all his steroids under?) or Pokey Reese... they don't really count.

  10. Richie Sexon.......boooooooooooo!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was playing off of ramirez, not amaral. Spooky timing tho

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wouldn't worry about it too much EP, seeing as Rich Amaral was already played earlier... third to be exact. So Richie Sexson is great (well, in a matter of speaking)

Sidenote: Congratulations Don't Call Me Gabe... you're the site's first LOSER of the Ex-Mariner game. Keep trying though.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Congratulations Sean - You are the second loser in the game. I expected more since you are such a veteran of the game, but in fairness to you you are typically passed out by the time we play this game

  14. I do not think there is another former Mariner that's first name begins with the letter H.

In the spirit of the game:

    Julio Cruz

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bucky Jacobsen.....git r done

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hmmm... I don't have a problem with that. But I. Ant seem to think of P's that haven't been mentioned... Phil Bradley, pete obrien, Paul Abbott, Paul sorrento...

Can anyone else help us out? Otherwise I'll go back to G.

  17. Looks like Poslon made an executive call - I say coaches are fair game as long as it was at the major league level.

    Steve Trout

  18. In my defense, I believe Spoljaric did pitch from the M's

    ReplyDelete
  19. No need to defend it, it's what we were looking for. You're an asset.

    ReplyDelete
  20. couldnt connect to the P so im going with the best mariner of all...Edgar Martinez

    ReplyDelete
  21. We were stuck on H for a while before so I'm gonna cheat and go to Rey Quinonez.

    Have fun with Q.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Quinn Mack...he's real, thanks Finn, you're damn Q name made me break down and use the dreaded Google...

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm mad that jappedo didn't go with quinton 'big ern' mccrackon, someone who didn't need googling but well start from scratch tomorrow. I know most of you are wazzou fans but how bout them huskies?

  24. Mike Cameron ... easy I know.

  25. At first I thought it would be funny to have nothing but lists of names here, which I want to continue, but with baseball fast approaching, and all of us here at HCM starved for professional sports... I thought why not add again to the little game.

In between new names being played, if a recent name sparks some fond memories, please share them with the rest of the Mustacheers. (try not to go too far back in the list, and I know we've already wasted some great ones. I'll make an exception for Pete O'brien)

    For example... Mike Cameron.

Most people will say the 4 homer game, which was great. But my favorite Mike Cameron memory was roughly a few games into the season. In the first home series of the year (maybe even the first home game). He was taking over for Griffey. Big shoes. Big shoes.

Anyway (and I'm sure the details are off, but fuck you) he makes a homerun saving catch and Safeco goes apeshit, (sounded like it at least, cuz I was in Pullman). Side is retired and Cammy is due up next inning. He walks to the plate and gets a standing ovation. Just awesome. He then proceeds to strike out on what I remember being (probably wrong) three swinging strikes. He heads back to the dugout to another standing ovation. He was already a fan favorite. Sean I believe we were watching this game, if you can confirm or deny any of this memory, it'd be appreciated.

Anyway... enjoy the rest of your day.

  26. Carl Everett. Ha ha his best moments were off the field. He didn't believe in dinosaurs. Maybe if he borrowed darren daltons time machine he could see them first hand.

    ReplyDelete
  27. On the Mike Cameron story - the standing ovation went through the inning change. It lasted the entire time he was in the on deck circle.

One of the best Seattle sports memories

    ReplyDelete
  28. Cameron - Even better!

Carl Everett - A true lunatic. He had an interesting Mariner relationship. I once saw Jamie Moyer strike him out and as Everett walked to the dugout he tipped his cap to Jamie. Of course he also hit a homerun off of him and grabbed his crotch too. Still not sure what to make of him.

  29. Yes Finn we were watching that game. FSN just replayed that game on monday. Too bad I Fd up and got kicked out of the game, I guess I will just have to share memories now. Thanks for reaching out Finn, greatly appreciated

  30. Erik Hanson- I had the "pleasure" of playing in a golf tournament with him. Since retiring he has become one of the top amateur golfers in WA. Long story short- total dick. And I'm a delight to play golf with.....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Glenallen Hill (sorry, couldn't get anyone with an H first name)

He is the only man to hit a ball out of Safeco.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cool, so you hooked us all up with another H?

    ReplyDelete
  33. All I remember about Glenallen Hill is that he can hit homeruns out of Safeco, no big whoop....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Erik or Peter shoudl have a story about John Halama. I always screw it up.

There aren't any H's that I can think of, so I'm going with Darnell Coles.

I once saw him hit a bunt straight off homeplate in to fair territory and it went to high, that he'd made a throw in possible. He was safe at first. This blew my mind. I wondered (sometimes still to this day) why all ball players didn't do that. Free singles all day long.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My favorite Halama story is that his mom routed against him when he pitched against teams she liked better.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Chad Meyers

He only played a few games, but I hated him because of his name

    ReplyDelete
  37. Miguel Cairo. I hated him more than I hate pete's best friend gordon.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The best Cairo story is that USS Mariner published the lineups for every game and put a R, L os S to designate hitters. WHenever Cairo played they listed him as 0.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Chris Widger.

The Halama story comes from my friend who said he was standing in the bullpen area when Halama was warming-up. A distraught, yet eloquent fan simply stated:

"Oh no no no Halama, you are not going in. You are not good."

Apparently this was well within earshot.

  40. Hey guys! Don't you remember me? I played two of my best seasons with the club. 1995-1996.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Of course we remember you Doug! A real cog in the '95 engine!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'll always remember wishing Willie Bloomqist was more like Willie Mays Hays.

    Bob Wolcott

PS This weekend I'm gonna start a new thread with all the names listed already... should make this a little easier as the game becomes more challenging.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bobby Valentine. Not sure if you guys saw the game where he got ejected and then snuck back into the dugout with one of those fake mustache/glasses sets. People still talk about that every time bobby a's name is mentioned in ny.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Vince Coleman.....He used to throw firecrackers into crowds of people

    ReplyDelete
  45. Chris Snelling

The Australian Cal Ripken. How many consecutive games did he play in with us? 6? 8?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Scott Podsednik.

Remember when he hit that triple? ... I think.

Back to the P's Yes! But can I just go for one since I finally remembered a good one? I guess I'll wait till midnight. That's right I'll still be awake.

    ReplyDelete
  47. To me, Tino Martinez has the most latino sounding name while looking and sounding like the least latino man I have ever seen or heard. And I grew up in Mill Creek

    ReplyDelete
  48. Felix Hernandez....in two more years! Ha ha you see what I did there? Seriously though I don't know any more fs so i'll leave you with another h and welcome the one and only: Rickey Henderson
