I think people who think Redskins is racist need to really lighten up. I understand being respectful, but at some point people need to get a life. Some of this PC stuff goes to far. Besides, the majority Native Americans LIKE the team name.

Pete, you may be on to something. Maybe thats why he "got hurt" his senior year and didnt play as well, so he wouldnt go so early in the draft so he could play for a team with a chance to win. All of this becasue he is a proud Reskin- err Cherokee- of course.

Why did you assume I was referring to the race issue? I simply meant that the Cherokee are a proud people and Bradford might be ashamed at having to play for the shitty Redskins. I don't know him personally, but I think he would have some reservations.

I looked into this as well. The name was apparently changed to Redskins to honor a coach of the team who was a Native American. So what? Even if it's supposed to honor somebody it still sounds awful. It's like if I wanted to honor my black coach and I changed the team name to the Darkies. But it's cool, because it's in honor of that guy.

Ans no, the coach's nickname wasn't even Redskin, it was Lone Star (which I suppose might have been his real name).

This is another pick that I would really like to see happen. Bradford is an official member of the Cherokee Nation. He is a hero to Native Americans across the country. For the 10,000 time (to be fair, first on this site), the name the Redskins was named to honor a famous Indian (Native American). Time and time again they poll Indians and every time the Indians votes show they would prefer the name NOT to be changed. Yet a small band of bored hippies who are desperate to self actualize themselves rampage against this unthoughtful and racist name, and it becomes common knowledge even among bloggers as far away as Seattle that it is a racist team name.
