Consider this your opportunity to talk shit about either the Huskies or the Cougs.

Everyone a little shy? Ok I'll get us started...
I hate 'em. The Huskies. I REALLY hate Jack-Huskies ... but that's not what I want to rant about.
Lately I've found a NEW annoying Husky-fan trend. I tell them I hate the Huskies and never root for them... they look mortified and they say "But I root for the Cougars, when they aren't playing the Huskies!?!?".
It's infuriating for a number of reasons, but here are a few thoughts:
A) You're probably a liar. You don't root for the Cougs at all. You just think it makes you sound like a cooler person. It doesn't. Or maybe you're just lying to yourself. 'Cuz if you really root for the Cougs when they aren't playing the Huskies, you're a LAME fan. We're your rival.
Side-note: Let me squash an argument against this right now... Husky Fan: "We care more about beating Oregon. THEY'RE our big rival." Sounds like a delusional Mariners fan from back in the day. We thought the Yankees were our rival. But if you told a Yankee fan that, they'd just laugh in your face. Probably like an Oregon fan would. In fact the similarities are pretty hilarious cuz Husky fans hate the advantages that Oregon has in recruiting just like the Mariner fans hate how the Yankees can spend more money. Problem is the Huskies have a huge advantage in recruiting over most schools just like the M's spend more than most teams. Anyway.. Go Mariners... See ya Jose Lopez...
Where were we?
B) Nobody asked you to root for the Cougs, and quite frankly we don't want ya! We don't need your condescending cheers. The, oh look the little Cougars won, good for them cheers!!! SHOVE IT you pompous d-bags! (this next part is on me cuz I choose to live in Seattle, but TOO BAD) I've got to listen to months and months of how great Jake Locker is (PS what recent QB in the Husky "legacy" wouldn't you take over him? Stanback? Everyone else demolishes him), how great this Husky team is going to be, etc. UGH.
So in closing you magnanimous Husky fans... frack off. Don't root for us. You haven't earned it.
Frack the Huskies.
Go Cougs.
We're gonna roll you.
(lots of generalizations in here... I'll give a pass to my immediate family, and maybe a few others.)

I glanced at the front of a newspaper (they still exist) this morning, and saw that Joe Montana's kid is going to UW. How good can he be right??!?!
Don't worry Coug fans... early reports have Tom and Gisele's first born commiting to the Cougs (ba-dum-dum)

Big Sports Day Yesterday!
Huge day for HCM!
Cougars name a new head coach!
M's start a new season full of promise!
Griffey jacks one!
But I think the big topic everyone wants to weigh in on is this...
What in the HELL was that opening music video form the M's game!?!?!?!?
Discuss.

Tony Bennett
Those of you (all four or five) who were anxiously awaiting the Seattle Sports March Madness Final Four post will have to wait another day. 'Cuz right now anything even remotely related to college basketball makes my soul cry.Tony Bennett has left the Cougars. If your finding this out here, I'm both elated and terribly depressed for you that this was your # 1 sports news source. (The M's traded JJ putz by the way... that was my last attempt at humor, cuz nothing about this is funny to me.).
Part of me wants to say "thank you". So I'll get that part out of the way first. Thank you Coach Bennett (and your daddy) for putting the program on the map. Anyone who has watched a Cougar basketball game with me knows I have a slightly above average passion for this team. That's hard to do when you're last in the PAC-10 every year. You changed that. So thank you for what was easily the most exciting and enjoyable 4 years I've ever had watching any college team (not just basketball). That was for the part of me that wants to say thank you.
The rest? ... Sort of just wants to say fuck you.
I think Maynard says it best:
It's pretty tough to ignore that he REALLY used the school to gain national exposure as a viable head coaching candidate. Sure he could have left last year.... so thaaaaaank you for staying one more year. But come on, if he bailed on his first recruiting class and a kid (the legendary Taylor Rochestie) who gave up his scholarship because he believed in the program, he would have looked like a gigantic dick head. Now he just looks like a dick head.
I know. I know it was bound to happen. But it didn't have to be such a blindside. And he didn't really stay thaaaat long. And to Virginia? I mean is that really that great of a step up? Have fun trying to slow that league down.
I tried listening to a little 950 KJR on the way home, just to get a little more news on the subject, but instead I got a bunch of bullshit "be grateful" opinions. Cougs should be grateful for the time they had. F-that. That's such a loser mentality and it's completely hypocritical. If Tony Bennett was coaching the Huskies and he pulled this... there'd by rioting in the streets.
We (Cougs) have every right to be pissed at a coach who bolted. And I am. I'm sure it will soften over time, and again it was nice to have a run like that... but I wanted more. Hopefully the players won't transfer because they feel betrayed. It's a tough sport for them.
The good news? It's already being reported that DeAngelo Casto has no plans to transfer. And you know why? 'Cuz he's a filthy bad ass who will go down as one of the greatest Cougars of all time. Not sure where Tony stands now.
Whatever, I'm done. Please go replay the video a few times. It'll make you feel better.
(If you can't make out the lyrics, it's Fuck You Buddy (I think) repeated over and over again, but for our purposes you can replace Buddy with Tony).
Have a great rest of the week. Mine is ruined.
Seattle Sports March Madness will return tomorrow, if I haven't destroyed my computer by then.

Go Cougs
Lat night's game reminded me why I love rooting for sports teams....
and then it reminded me why it sucks so bad to care.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Cindy Brunson digs me!!!

Finn (Seattle, WA): Cougs needed OT to beat the Beavers last night, but a win is a win right? GO COUGS!
Cindy Brunson: (12:12 PM ET ) Amen Finn. I tuned in when the Cougs were down by double digits -painful. Doubt Wazzu will have a shot to make the tournament but at least they're competing!
I wish I could say the same for her faith in the Cougs.

November 23rd 2008
November 23rd is shaping up to be the greatest of all they days... ever.
The world will wake up fresh from a Cougar Apple Cup victory and rush to Best Buy to purchase Chinese Democracy (thank you Axl). THEN, head over to Tailgater's Heaven to pair-ty before the Seahawks wipe the field with our personal whipping boys the Washington Racist-team-name-that-i-can't-even-believe-is-still-alloweds.
If that wasn't enough, humans can then head back home to wind down with the return Jack Bauer in a special 2-hour movie version of 24.
It's also TS Tariyah's birthday.
It shall be epic.
I don't see how anything could go wrong!!!

SportsCenter anchor Cindy Brunson chimes in on the Cougs chances this weekend
Quick update on my ESPN chat dealings, this time with WAZZU Alumni Cindy Brunson:

She doesn't like our chances. At least she responded... unlike some female anchors. I'm looking at you Michelle Bonner.

Finn (Seattle, WA): 43 pt. spread for the Cougs this week. Think we can beat it?

Cindy Brunson: (12:12 PM ET ) Finn -- that game will likely go down as the WORST loss for WAZZU in school history (for a 2nd time this season!)
