Round 1, Group 2 Results, and Round 1, Group 3 Matchups

Be sure to check out Peter's new mock draft below. Good Stuff!!!

Just finished watching a dismal game. The Cougs did NOT play there game and apparently were up against the Australian Michael Jordan mixed with Valde Divac. It's a shame. This dude Patti... yep, Patti... had a monster game, but he tarnished it by flopping the entire game like a gigantic pussy. I'm left with one big question after listening to the dynamite commentating team... was St. Mary's close to making the tournament? In all seriousness the colorman on this team is the biggest idiot I've ever listened. He barely watch the game and made outlandish claims about Coug players trying hurt the other team. He's a fucking moron. I'm in a GREAT MOOD!!!

On to the business at hand.

Group 2 results:

Winners

Cammy 19-2
Ray 20-1
Griffey 21-0
Karl 17-4
Tez-Rex 17-4
Felix 19-2 (whoever voted for the dance crew needs to take a long look in the mirror)
Lofa 14-6
and..
.
.
.
.
.
SCHEFFLER 11-9!!! What an upset!!! He's got Lofa next round!

Ok, Group 3 of Round 1 here we go:

6. John Olerud

John Olerud oozes charisma and pisses out personality. While looking for this picture I realized how many teams he played for at the end. Sort of whored himself out. But he's a Coug and he really helped out on the 115 win team.

VS.

11. Lauren Jackson

Would ya? I would.

3. Jay Buhner

Buhner rules. Someone please post the story about him in the dugout screaming at Griffey when he was rounding third off of the Double. I'm pretty sure the Sheriff confirmed it at King's. Am I right?

VS.

Jarrod Washburn

Probably doesn't belong. But he got one of our writer's his start. Do your research gang.

5. Rashard Lewis

I guess this guy still plays in the NBA. I wasn't sure that league still existed. Anyway, like it or not, statistically this dude goes down as one of the greatest Sonics of all time.

VS.

12. Peanut Guy

I always wait until he's a few steps away for two reasons. 1) See how creative he can get with the toss, and 2) I don't want to drop the peanuts.

4. Shaun Alexander

He was the MVP of the fuckin' league. The more a I think about it... the more ashamed I am of how are city just absolutely turned on him at the first sign of decline. LET'S SHOW HIM HOW WE REALLY FEEL SEATTLE!!!!

VS.

John Carlson

The future of Seattle football. And a scary, scary looking fella.

7. Jim Zorn

Before my time as a player. But had a big role in developing Matt Hasselbeck into the bad ass that he is today.

VS.

10. Chris Warren

^^^ These things have gotta be regionalized. In all seriousness... this dude put up some great number on some crap teams. A real workhorse. Deserves some recognition.

2. Lou Piniella

^^^ Pretty sure I was at that game. What can you say about Sweet Lou? He's the best. Plus Erik can do a mean impression of him. Not sure how well it will translate into post form... but maybe he'll give it a shot.

VS.

15. Our Soccer team

^^^ That's a soccer ball right?

1. Gary Payton

The Glove. No jokes here (the entire post is debatable). Best Sonic of all time, and a top 5 Seattle Sports star. No arguments. NONE. Try it!!!! I dare you. Plus GP is hilarious, he came to Save Our Sonics Rally... Gary rules.

VS.

16. Brian Bozworth

Hey, I love Stone Cold as much as the next guy... but to say The Boz's career fizzled is a bigger understatement than .... * Fill In Your Own Creative Joke Here *

8. Leroy Hill

You wanna tell that dude he's not in the tourney? Plus he's the franchise now.

VS.

9. Dave Valle

Puts on a great baseball camp. Made sure kids weren't afraid to get beaned. GREAT color guy! Always enjoy when he hip checks Ricco into the wall to catch a flyball.

Alrighty... VOTE!!!

Rock Out with your Mock Out

The Combine has come and gone and we are in the midst of Pro Days. I think it’s about time to revise my original Mock Draft. As you will see, there are quite a few changes. Enjoy!

1. Detroit Lions - Matthew Stafford (QB, Georgia)
I won’t change this until I hear they’re negotiating with someone. They could go with Curry if they want a playmaking linebacker, but they might decide to use a 5th round pick on that type of player.

2. St. Louis Rams – Eugene Monroe (T, Virginia)
No change here either. The Rams cut Orlando Pace, but they needed to address their O-line anyway. They could go with Jason Smith if they feel like his potential outweighs Monroe’s already polished skills.

3. KC Chiefs – Aaron Curry (LB, Wake Forest)
Again, no change. I figure they have to go with Curry. They’re switching to the 3-4 and could use all the quality LBs they can get. They addressed QB through the Cassel trade and can have him replace the aging Steve DeBerg.

4. Seattle Seahawks – Michael Crabtree (WR, Texas Tech)
Even with T.J., I say the Hawks go with Crabtree. He’s probably the #1 guy in the draft and signing another WR shouldn’t make them pass on him. If they take Crabtree, they might cut Branch. They would have a lot of money tied up in one position if they didn’t. With Peterson gone, it would be interesting to see what happens if Curry is still available. I wouldn’t mind them taking Monroe or Jason Smith if they’re available.

5. Cleveland Browns – Brian Orakpo (DE/OLB, Texas) (new)
The Browns need to take the best pass rusher in the draft and that is Orakpo. His stock has risen since the Combine. Although some question his ability to do anything but rush the passer and also his ability to provide a consistent effort. But hey, it’s Cleveland. Who the hell will care?

6. Cincinnati Bengals – Jason Smith (T, Baylor) (new)
They need to improve the O-line. Jason Smith might be the best T on some people’s boards, so it would be a good pick at #6. Plus, at the Combine he mentioned that he liked to physically assault the guy he was matched up with. If he does that off the field he’ll end up in trouble with the law. Perfect fit.

7. Oakland Raiders – BJ Raji (DT, Boston College) (new)
Michael Lombardi on NFL Network said there is no way Al Davis will take a receiver with this pick. He said he’ll go O-line or D-Line. I still think he’ll go with Maclin, but Lombardi did work alongside Davis, so I guess I’ll go with Raji.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars – Jeremy Maclin (WR, Mizzou) (new)
Maclin can step in immediately and be the next first round WR bust in Jacksonville.

9. Green Bay Packers – Andre Smith (T, Alabama)
I’m going to stick with him here. I have heard mixed reviews from his pro day. Some people think it was awful, others think he did nothing to hurt himself any further. He did take his shirt off without being asked, which is odd, because his upper body is flabby and he has gross tits. Packers could go with Tyson Jackson from LSU because they need a true 3-4 DE and he is the only quality one in the draft. This would be a little high I think.

10. San Francisco 49ers – Aaron Maybin (DE/OLB, Penn State) (new)
I thought about having them take Mark Sanchez just so I could feel better about playing them next year, and that’s still an option. I could see them going OL or WR if one of the top guys fell to them.

11. Buffalo Bills – Popcorn (as in, get it ready) (new)
Could go with Brandon Pettigrew (TE, Okla St), but I think they can get a TE in the 2nd round and use this pick to improve their pass rush. So they’ll go Everrette Brown (DE/OLB, FSU). Although, I’ve heard Pettigrew compared to Jason Witten, so it’d be hilarious if they took him to piss off TO.

12. Denver Broncos – Mark Sanchez (QB, USC) (new)
Just throwing it out there. Could be a surprise pick if Cutler and Coach can’t get repair the relationship. I suggest they do a lock-in at the rec center and talk about their issues.

13. Washington Redskins – Michael Oher (T, Ole Miss)
I really like Oher and the Redskins need help on the line.

14. New Orleans Saints – Malcolm Jenkins (CB, Ohio State)
I originally thought this would be a surprise if he fell this far, but it seems pretty likely after a poor Combine. He looked better at his pro day, but concerns about top speed are still there. He might have to play FS in the pros.

15. Houston Texans – Brian Cushing (OLB, USC)
Some concerns are being raised as to whether or not Cushing can stay on the field for 3 downs. I think he should be able to as he develops. He can probably play inside or outside.

16. San Diego Chargers – Tyson Jackson (DE, LSU) (new)
They need a replacement for Igor Olshansky. Jackson is the only legit 3-4 DE and would be a good fit for the defense.

17. New York Jets – Percy Harvin (WR, Florida) (new)
If Josh Freeman’s buzz continues to grow they might take him, but I think they’ll go for Harvin because of the playmaking abilities. He can line up in some different spots and help in the return game (probably).

18. Chicago Bears – Darrius Heyward-Bey (WR, Maryland) (new)
They need a quality receiver to pair with Hester. I think Hakeem Nicks is a better receiver, but people like Heyward-Bey’s combination of size and speed.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Vontae Davis (CB, Illinois)
Freeman’s stock is rising and the new coach has experience with him from when he was at K-State, but I just don’t think they’ll make the pick.

20. Detroit Lions – Rey Maualuga (ILB, USC) (new)
Rey (I’m not on a first name basis, but it’s really annoying to type Maualuga) can bring some intensity to the defense. His draft position might be determined by how severe his hamstring injury is. I have heard that this pick could possibly be used in a package to trade for Jay Cutler. That would be a great move for the Lions as they could then focus on taking the top OT at #1.

21. Philadelphia Eagles – Knowshon Moreno (RB, Georgia)
Gonna stick with this one for now. They would like an OT, so Eben Britton is an option.

22. Minnesota Vikings – Josh Freeman (QB, Kansas State) (new)
Is Sage Rosenfels the answer? Yes. As long as the question is: who will not be starting for the Vikings by Week 8? Tavaris Jackson doesn’t seem to be developing, so I think the Vikings should take Freeman here.

23. New England Patriots – Clay Matthews (OLB, USC) (new)
His stock has been on the rise since the beginning of his Senior year. So the Pats will draft him and he’ll probably be awesome.

24. Atlanta Falcons – Robert Ayers (DE, Tennessee) (new)
This guy’s kind of a one-year wonder. He continued his solid year at the Senior Bowl where he had a great week of practice. Most mocks have him a bit higher.

25. Miami Dolphins – Alphonso Smith (CB, Wake Forest) (new)
Smith is undersized and did not run as fast as hoped at the Combine. But he is a playmaker with good ball skills.

26. Baltimore Ravens – Brandon Pettigrew (TE, Oklahoma State) (new)
They’ll probably pick a defensive player instead, but with Todd Heap steadily declining, Pettigrew would be the smart choice. Although, I just read that they signed L.J. Smith, so maybe they wouldn't use a first round pick on the position.

27. Indianapolis Colts – Peria Jerry (DT, Ole Miss)
The Colts need help at the position and Jerry seems to be moving up people’s boards. WR is an option here as well. They’ll just take the best player available.

28. Philadelphia Eagles – Eben Britton (T, Arizona) (new)
Britton has been getting some recent buzz. He will likely play RT in the pros.

29. New York Giants – Hakeem Nicks (WR, North Carolina) (new)
My East Coast draft scout says that Giants fans would like Hakeem Nicks. There is a good chance he’ll be off the board by this point, but he could drop to this spot.

30. Tennessee Titans – Evander Hood (DT, Missouri) (new)
He is generating some buzz and his nickname is Ziggy.

31. Arizona Cardinals – Chris Wells (RB, Ohio State) (new)
I don’t think he’ll drop this far, but I couldn’t find any other spot for him. There's also a chance that the Cardinals will miss their pick. I could easily see the Cards' war room turning on draft coverage and when they aren't on the clock within the first 10 picks, they'll think the NFL forgot about them and close up shop. You can't blame them. Until now they had no idea there were more than 15 picks in the first round.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers – Darius Butler (CB, UConn) (new)
Stock is on the rise. The Steelers lost McFadden to free agency, so they need to add a DB.

With their pick in the 2nd round, the Hawks will have some good options. It’s likely that they’ll have their pick of the safeties, which is a position I think we all would like them to address. If they don’t go with Crabtree at #4, I would like to see them take Brian Robiskie (WR, Ohio State). He doesn’t have great speed, but seems to do everything else well. I also have Laurinaitis now falling into the 2nd round, but if he does he won’t last too long.

Take that Wanamaker!

I hope that Wak can manage the rotation to get Silva to face teams made up mostly of Dutch players.

HCM's Tourney Pick

Be sure to check out the matchup profiles below this post... and hopefully the surveys are finally up... but onto the task at hand...

Well, it's the moment you've all been waiting for. Time for the crew at henrycottosmustache.com to pick our tourney team. With the state's best battling it out in the NIT, it was sort of up in the air this season. There were two "local" teams we could look at:

UW - there's no way these guys make it past the first weekend. Sorry it's true. Mississippi State is the kind of team that only elite schools will beat, and UW isn't one. Let's say for argument's sake they DO beat Miss. St. Well... no chance in hell they beat Purdue. Sorry UW. You lose.

"The Zags" - If you're not from Spokane or didn't attend Gonzaga... don't root for them. There's no way you have any ties to the team. So just shut up. Rooting for Gonzaga just tells everyone out there that you jumped on a bandwagon a few years back and you're just too chicken shit to jump back off.

There's only one natural choice. It's the SMARTEST pick to make. A division champion so strong that the rest of the league was too scared to even play them in a conference tournament. I give you

Round 1 Group 2

Here's our group 2 of first round matchups:

5. Mike Cameron

I'll go on record saying he had the most amount of Seattle fans for spending the shortest amount of time as a Mariner. Really fun player to root for. Plus didn't it come out that he drank during games? If so... rad.

VS.

12. Dave Krieg

I put him on here before I saw this picture. But this pic erased any doubts that he belongs.

4. Ray Allen

Smoothest shot I've ever seen. He's more of a cog in the system now, but I always thought he never got the credit he deserved for being one of the best players in the league when he was with the Sonics. I'm talkin' Top 10. Plus he grabbed Rosario's boobs.

VS.

13. Rick Rizzzzzz

How can a picture this small contain a rug that big?

1. Ken Griffey, Jr.

He's .... *sob* ... he's ... (fighting back more tears).... he's back!!!!

VS.

16. Jim McIlvaine

Yep.

8. Lenny Wilkens

I guess he was a great Sonic. Before my time.

VS.

Sooooo close to a ring.

6. Cortez Kennedy

The most dominant Seattle defensive player ever (w/ apologies to Gary Payton).

VS.

11. The Squatch

Rumor has it, he still patrols the rafters at the vacant Key, repelling down to eat rats and other vermin for sustenance. His cries of pain and anguish pollute the Seattle nights. (another rumor has him selling out to become the the Bison for that dipshit team near Texas.)

3. Felix Hernandez

Bow down to the King. There was some chatter that the King Felix seed was too high. talk to me after the season. His time is upon us. All hail the king. (listen to Motorhead when you're reading this).

VS.

14. The Dancing Grounds Crew

I laughed the first time I saw these guys. Now I just cry.

7. Lofa Tatupu

Future Hall of Famer. I sense a bounce back year for him.

VS.

Freddy Garcia and Carlos Guillen

Randy Johnson netted us these two dudes (and John "I don't like baseball" Halama). They showed some promise, but their buddy in the middle up there may have had something to do with their demise in Seattle. We traded em both. Carlos has been an All-star since and Freddy dominated in the playoffs for Chicago as they won a World Series. OOPS. OOPS.

PS I could be wrong but without looking I believe the guys we got for Randy Johnson got us Ben Davis, Miguel Olivo, Mike Morse, and Ramon Vasquez. Hmmm.

2. Steve Largent

What can I say? He's a Hall of Famer. Seattle's only Hall of Famer, right? Anybody help me out there? Plus I once stood next to him in line for Splash Mountain. So the dude clearly has great taste in theme park attractions.

VS.

15. Steve Scheffler

Pros: In the glory days when Payton and Kemp had the Sonics in cruise control, the crowd would literally chant his name until he rose off the bench and they erupted. One of my favorite Sonics memories was Karl sticking him in an NBC televised game in the first few minutes to guard Barkley. Karl didn't like the team's intensity. Steve definitely brought that.

Cons: I heard he makes kids quote him Bible verses before signing autographs. Dude?

Anyway... vote away!

Seattle Sports March Madness, Round 1 Group 1, Results?

THIS IS WHAT SEATTLE SPORTS MARCH MADNESS IS ALL ABOUT!!!!

First our final results of round 1:

Walter Jones destroys Carlos Silva 29 - 0

Trufant gets past Reynolds 17-12

Sue Bird with the classic 5 seed -12 seed upset over Booney 17-13

AD takes care of Rick Mirer 25 - 6

That brings us to our first OVERTIME battle.

Durant and Watters were tied at 15.

So.... (and this will probably change depending on the schedule if there are any more ties)

We're gonna leave the voting open on this poll through Sunday Night @ 5:00PM (hahaha, but those who've voted already are probably the only ones reading. So call your friends and influence them, haha.)

"Angels" in the Outfield Uncovered as Steroid Users

In a new book, "The Syringe Had Wings" by former broadcaster Ranch Wilder, the "miracle" Angels team from years ago that was believed to have "supernatural" powers is revealed as a team full of steroid users.

Seattle March Madness: Group 1

First group matchups... remember to vote on the right over there. Voting will be roughly 24 hours.

1. Walter Jones

Walter is a giant bad-ass.

VS.

16. Carlos Silva

Carlos Silva is a giant fat ass. (and apparently hangs out with incompetent Gms)

8. Harold Reynolds

VS

9. Marcus Trufant

The Truf is a great jersey to own.

7. Xavier McDaniel

Came to the Save Our Sonics Rally and was in Singles. Also was a bad ass.

VS.

10. Detlef Schrempf

Great Sonic. Lame Husky.

2. Shawn Kemp

I'm not playing favorites... but check this shit out:

VS.

15. Bobby Ayala

Mr. Ayala taught us all at a young age how important a good closer was.

5. Bret Boone

It's tough to tell from this still picture... but damnit he swung hard.

VS.

12. Sue Bird

Sexiest contestant... even WITH Sweet Lou in the mix.

4. Alvin Davis

I remember Alvin's last game as a Mariner. I was in a luxury box. That is all.

VS.

13. Rick Mirer

^^^ ... It wasn't.

6. Kevin Durant

Some complaints about him being in and this high. Well... eliminate him if you want... but he was the shit when he played basketball.

VS.

11. Ricky Watters

That Superbowl ring he's proudly displaying? Yeah, that's not from his time with the Hawks.

3. Kevin Calabro

Quite simply: The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

VS.

14. Desmond Mason

D-Mas brought a dunk title to the Supes. It's the closest thing to a championship that this city has seen in over in almost 30 years. For that alone he makes it.

New Book Accuses "Miracle" Team of PED Use

ANAHEIM, LOS ANGELES, CA - "It’s time the truth came out." Ranch Wilder, former Angels broadcaster said Wednesday. Wilder’s new book "The Syringe Had Wings," which hits shelves next Tuesday is said to "blow the lid" on the miraculous Angels team that made an inspirational run to the pennant years ago. In his book, Wilder makes bold claims of rampant steroid use throughout the Angels clubhouse. "You don’t even have to look at the numbers," explained Wilder, "Just watch some of the game film. I mean what about that catch that (Ben) Williams made where he leapt about 12 feet in the air. Or how about in that very same game where (former Angels catcher, Triscuitt) Mesmer shattered his bat and still hit a home run. You’re gonna tell me these things are natural?"

No one is safe in Wilder’s scathing crusade, including beloved pitcher Mel Clark. "Clark was the most obvious case." Said Wilder, "You tell me how a 45 year-old pitcher who had been steadily declining for the last 5 seasons all of a sudden starts throwing like he’s Steve Nebraska."
Wilder’s book uncovers an intricate delivery system of the PEDs, which were referred to under the code name of "Angels." According to Wilder, the "angels" were provided by a local woman named Maggie Nelson who used an abandoned children’s halfway house as a front for a sophisticated drug ring. As if this wasn’t shocking enough, Wilder goes on to report that the steroids were delivered to the ballpark by the orphaned children themselves. The most frequent delivery person was a young boy named Roger who later confessed that the only reason he participated was because Nelson told him his father would take him back if the Angels won the pennant. Roger became such a regular guest of the team that he was even given front-row seats near the dugout so that he could more easily drop-off the banned substances. "Maggie Nelson is a sick individual who shamelessly involved children in her twisted drug empire," expounded Wilder, "She is really a despicable human being."

Wilder reports that the treachery didn’t stop with performance-enhancing drugs, claiming that the Angels resorted to other underhanded tactics such as drugging the opposition. Wilder claims that visiting teams’ food would be doped with mild tranquilizers, thus altering their play in a negative manner. "How else do you explain the Oakland A’s making 19 errors on one play?" Asked Wilder, in reference to an infield hit that resulted in an inside-the-park home run for soft-hitting utility man Danny Hemmerling.

When approached for comment, former Angels manager George Knox only said, "I’m not here to talk about the past. Besides, I’m not being honest with myself right now, so how do you expect me to be honest with you?"

Star-Studded Watchmen Screening

I went to see Watchmen in IMAX at my local cineplex earlier today. Joining me in the theater was Clippers super-player Chris Kaman. This marks the second time I've gone to the same movie as a gawky, white big-man. The first being a 2005 showing of The Ice Harvest at the Alderwood 16 that was attended by myself and Nick Collison. I gotta say I was way more excited for Collison. I mean, Kaman was wearing basketball shorts and a t-shirt. Pretty classless. Maybe he was worried that people wouldn't know that the 6'11" guy sitting in the handicapped row so that he can actually fit in a seat was a basketball player.

The real highlight, however, was when Rosario Dawson showed up.

She still stunk of Shuttlesworth.

Aron Baynes got screwed and at the very least should have gotten All Pac-10 Honorable Mention

Has Roeland Schaftenaar ever done this:

Shame on you ESPN

I just was checking ESPN.com (one of our fledgling competitors) and saw that they have the Thunder listed as one of my teams that I follow. BOO

Tony Gwynn: "He was throwing good..."

Over at the Hot Stone League, my boy Larry checks in with the boy who probably got away. We all remember that M's sweep of the A's that cost us Strasburg. Well it looks like he is off to a nice start to the season with San Diego State. In his last start he went 6 2/3 innings and had 16 Ks, hitting 102 MPH 7 times.
