The State of College Football

As we all know the entire state of Washington is suffering through a futile football season rarely matched throughout the annals of history. The culmination of which will arrive on November 22nd with the Apple Cup. We've been discussing how terrible this game will be for weeks, and here's Ted Miller's take, if you haven't already seen it: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/pac10/0-4-28/A-date-that-will-live-in-infamy--Apple-Cup-2008.html
This article was a featured link under the "NCAA" section on the front page of espn.com, so it seems the whole nation is taking notice.

Also, the weekly Bottom 10 poll from ESPN ranks the Huskies #1 and the Cougs #2. (whole article can be found here: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=bottom100810).
Now, I know both teams are just awful, however, after watching both perform, I would have to disagree with ESPN and say that the Cougars are slightly worse at this point. I know they have one win, but that's only because they played Portland St. What do you guys think? Who is honestly the worst team in college football? (besides Portland St.)

I've been saying it for awhile now, and I don't think I'm selling out my Cougarness when I say that we are the worse team. The Huskies are absolutely terrible, and to be honest, should probably be more ashamed... but the Cougars are worse on the field then they are.

But like most things that go wrong in my life, I have plenty of excuses for this:

1) New program: They're adopting a whole new culture, playbook, schemes, etc.

and

2) Injuries: Granted Locker being out hurts... but I'd argue that Felch is a better QB right now than Locker is anyway, (I'd probably lose that argument due to lack of position and due to the fact that I really don't care, but I digress...). The Cougs have been DESTROYED by injuries. Think every position for the Cougs = Seahawks at WR type destroyed.

The combination of those two things for what would have been a 8th place dream season in the Pac 10 and ... well... this is what happens.

That being said. Yes the Cougars are the lesser team right now. But we love being the underdogs and what a cinderella story it would be to pull out the victory over the clearly superior Husky squad. Nobody thinks they can do it, but oh man, if they somehow found the way it would be soooooo amazing.

Can't wait!

The on field performances of both teams this season has certainly warranted 1 thing. Gameday needs to come to Pullman for it. Depending on how the remainder of the season plays out, this could be the worst matchup in the history of college football. Why wouldnt your 24-hour sports leader want to be on location to witness history. Over the years they have gone to stupid locations like Lehigh playing someone for the 150th time, who cares!

I cant be the only one who wants to see Lee Corso put the Butch head on then take it off only to mock the crazy Cougar Nation by putting the Husky head on. Followed by him being brutally beaten before they can cut to Pam Ward calling the Minnesota at Iowa game.
